What Is Kiwanis?
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time. Kiwanis empowers communities to improve the world by making lasting differences in the lives of children. Members nationwide stage nearly 150,000 service projects and raise nearly $100 million every year for communities, families and projects.
Kiwanis of Germantown, Wisconsin
Kiwanis of Germantown has been proudly serving the community for almost 30 years and is a group of community volunteers comprised of individuals from a wide array of backgrounds. Its volunteers raise funds to give back to the community and support youth leadership and volunteer programs in the Germantown School District including K-Kids, Mac Leaders and Key Club. Kiwanis of Germantown also supports their adult members by sending them to leadership programs such as Leadership Germantown. Kiwanis of Germantown sponsors several events each year including the Germantown 4th of July Celebration, A Taste of Germantown and Breakfast with Santa, inviting all Germantown residents to enjoy events in their community. Their latest initiative to build a pavilion that the public can come together and enjoy has culminated in the Gehl’s Performing Arts Pavilion at Firemen’s Park. The official ribbon cutting was June 20, 2018 and the pavilion was busy hosting weekly Wednesday concerts all summer!
Meetings
Kiwanis meetings are held the second and fourth Wednesday of every month at the Germantown Community Library starting at 7:30 am.
The meetings consist of planning upcoming events, reviewing of completed events, discussing community needs and how best to serve the community. Anyone interested in seeing what Kiwanis of Germantown is all about, is welcome to attend any meeting. If you are interested in more information or speaking at a meeting, please e-mail at GtownKiwanis1978@gmail.com or follow us on Facebook.
Kiwanis in the Schools
The children in the community also participate in Kiwanis sponsored clubs. Kiwanis of Germantown is proud of the projects and volunteering efforts of our kids. In the elementary schools, the K-Kids out of Amy Belle Elementary run a “Souper Bowl” to donate cans of soup to local charities, and this year cleaned out old crayons with the Crayon Initiative. Mac Leaders out of MacArthur Elementary are always on-hand volunteering for Kiwanis events. They also host a Grandparents night with games and prizes. The Germantown High School Key Club, along with being a great help volunteering at Kiwanis events, also volunteers as tutors at the Middle School, help out with babysitting during PTA meetings, participate in Toys for Tots and making Valentine’s day cards for local senior living residents. The Key Club has 350 members that are required to complete 10 hours of community service each year.
